영국령 인도의 수도(1772-1912)였으며 인도3번재로 큰 대도시인 웨스트벵갈의 주도 콜카타Kolkata시는 오늘날 인도의 거대도시들처럼 다양한 문제에 직면해 있습니다. 인도의 경제 및 인구성장을 감안할 때 인도의'원도심'- 자연 사이트 (강, 언덕, 사막 등)에 따라 형성되고 변형 및 발전 되어 온 도시와 마을공동체 (어촌, 도시, 사원, 군사 도시, 시장 마을 등)-인 오래된 지역의 미래 예측과 최근 스마트 시티(Smart City)를 기조로 하는 국가정책과 방향성을 같이 한 현장위주의 관찰과 분석 및 자료구축을 통해 이해 ; 소통, 자료구축의 워크숍이 중요성이 대두되고 있습니다. 캘커타의 가장 오래된 ‘바라시장 Bara Bazar의 칫뿌르 Chitpur road'를 대상으로 인도 문화관광부는 '도시문화유산 프로젝트'를 진행하고 있으며 인도-프렌치 현장워크숍을 통해 건축이 도시 (문제, 역학, 주체자) 변화의 주체가 될 수 있도록 ‘현장’에서 이루어지는 세심한 ‘관찰’을 통해 도시 및 건축환경의 개선 및 재생프로젝트의 접근법을 시도합니다. 도시의 풍경으로서의 바라시장의 활력의 주요 내용으로 시대별 건축의 양식 복원, 거리 보행 및 네트워크 재정비, 다양한 주민들의 활동을 보존하는 자원으로서 바라시장의 미래를 위한 대안으로서 제안합니다.
